Year of the DAO is a newsletter from DAODAO exploring the newest developments and diving deep into the world of DAOs.
What if I told you there was a 40-acre parcel in Wyoming owned and controlled by a DAO?
Soon we could see entire cities powered by DAOs. And CityDAO is leading the way.
What is CityDAO?
The mission of CityDAO is simple.
CityDAO is exploring decentralized asset ownership on-chain, starting with a piece of land in Wyoming.
This piece of land is known as Parcel 0. Located an hour north of Cody, Wyoming, Parcel 0 is CityDAO's first experiment in DAO-governed land on-chain.
CityDAO shows the true potential of bringing Web3 technology into the physical world.
Putting land on chain has several benefits:
Instant land transfers, reduced legal complexity.
Open, transparent, programmable digital records.
Democratization of ownership through crowdfunding. Currently land is only available to large investors who can afford an entire parcel.
CityDAO NFTs
CityDAO citizen NFTs are used to make decisions regarding land acquisition, use and laws.
There are currently three types of Citizen NFTs:
CityDAO currently has over 5,000 members or "citizens".
This includes some notable citizens such as Brian Armstrong and Vitalik Buterin.
Each parcel of land is also an NFT that can be owned by the DAO collectively or by individuals.
The land can be used in any way owners see fit.
Some use case proposals include:
Fishing
Farming
Camping rentals
Cryptocurrency mining
Wind or other power generation
